Compete for cash prizes while riding your bike or walking through beautiful downtown San Luis Obispo, during the World Bicycle Relief Poker Run on May 14 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. A Bicycle Poker Run is a day of fun for all riders regardless of skill level and suitable for all ages. Players can choose one of two routes, an 11-mile bike ride around San Luis Obispo or a 3-mile walk through downtown, picking up cards along the way at five designated stops to complete their poker hand. This is not a race. The player with the best poker hand at the finish wins, so bike safely and enjoy the ride. For a donation of $5.00 per hand you can play as many hands as you like. There will be a prize for the best poker hand, and for the worst hand.
The poker run begins at 10 a.m. at Central Coast Brewing at 1422 Monterey St. and ends at the same location with a barbeque and bike festival with games, raffles and the live tunes of Nada Rasta from noon to 4 p.m.
Poker hands can be bought at the following locations: Art’s Cyclery, Synergy Health Group, Wally’s Bike Works, San Luis Rides, Foothill Cyclery, Cambria Bike Outfitters, Central Coast Brewing and Bamboo Batu. Tickets for the barbeque are sold separately for $5.
The poker run is hosted by the local office of SRAM and Rotaract Club of San Luis Obispo and benefits the World Bicycle Relief organization. Founded by SRAM in 2005, World Bicycle Relief is committed to bringing the power of bicycles to the developing world where, compared to walking, bicycles represent an enormous leap in productivity, access to healthcare, education and economic development opportunities.
World Bicycle Relief works with non-profit groups such as the World Health Organization, Catholic Relief Services and Care International and has provided more than 75,000 bicycles and trained more than 700 field mechanics since 2005.
